The industry leader Pantone announced its colour of the year for 2022 in early December. The selection is a perfectly purple blue shade of periwinkle.
Manifesting the carefree optimism and daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, the inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us embrace this changed landscape of possibilities, opening a new vision as we re-write our lives and can look to the future ahead in new light. Very Peri is a symbol of the zeitgeist and the moment of transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of social isolation, our perceptions and standards changed and our physical and digital lives merged in new ways. Digital design helps us push the boundaries of reality, opening the door to a dynamic virtual world where we can explore and create new colour possibilities. As society continues to recognise colour as an important form of communication and a way to express, influence ideas, emotions and to engage connections and creativity, the complexity of this new red-violet-blue hue highlights the vast possibilities that lie ahead.
Past colours of the year include: "Ultimate grey" (2021), "Classic Blue" (2020), "Living Coral" (2019), and "Ultra Violet" (2018).
